local and social

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

This week’s internet wealth is a little odd, as not only is it riches from the net, but riches from “real life.” I have been a busy bee, being out no less than once weekly for some sort of activity for months now. Hm, perhaps this is a sign that I have too many hobbies. I’m quite happy, though!

With the local knitting peeps, I’ve discovered that the typical protocol for after meetings is to go home, post pictures, and provide a summary of events. I have failed miserably at this, as I generally am too distracted or too lazy to remember to pull out my camera. It is easy to slack off when there are 5 others with cameras out.

I think its silly that I have so many local friends now between knitting, scrapbooking, and general social-ness, but have yet to really talk about it much. The cool thing is that many of them have blogs, so they’re easily linkable. (I’m sorry if I didn’t get you on here; There are a lot of people at these things that I haven’t gotten to know well yet or don’t have a blog. If you are one of these feel free to email me so we can buddy up and/or get you a blog started. ;) )

Knitting (which includes Thursday night Sit N Stitch, OKC Knitting Guild, Knitty Committee, Gourmet Yarn’s Knit-In, and various spinning meetings we’ve crashed):
Emily
Kay
Margaret
Rebecca
Shanidy
Shelly
Susan B.
Susan F.
Terri
Vanessa

Scrapbooking (however infrequently):
Amy (duh!)
Erin
Shell (er, we have yet to sit at the same table. But. Sometime soon. *nods*)

Category of Thier Own:
Katie (and, Rick. We met because we’re Harry Potter fans and it turns out that Katie is a knittah!)
Mary (internet friend turned “real life” friend. Too bad she lives in the middle of nowhere. We hope this will change soon.)

Check them out; They’re cool people.

So I do have a picture to share from this week’s crafty mayhem. Drooling over the forest of spinning wheels at a spinning meeting Monday night, Shelly decided to take a picture. Spinning, spinning, spin, spin. Wheels! Fiber! She had not brought her camera, so she used mine. Haha, so I didn’t even take this picture. Heee.

Rosemary, the simpleton

I started Hatmione on Thursday at our Sit N Stitch meeting. I had several false starts and after 2 hours managed to have 10 rounds of 2×2 ribbing done.

Yesterday, I brought her to the Knit-In at Gourmet Yarn. Hatmione, then several rounds into the actual pattern of the hat, supplied me with further evidence of something that I have suspected for awhile. I simply cannot count and visit at the same time. My brain starts to hurt and I can’t remember if I actually contributed to the conversation out loud or voiced my thoughts in my head. (Anyone? Did I sound like I was on large amounts of illegal drugs?)

I did 2 rounds of Hatmione in 4 hours.

But she’s quite cute!

(Psst! Remember to go check out other Sunday Self Portrait participants, listed in the “sps” link above.)

hello Friday

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

A good way to tell that I have not been taking enough pictures is when I use a photo from Sunday for my Friday Snapshot. However, it is also a good way to tell that we had a good time on Sunday.

The kids, enjoying the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. (Sarah has an amusing pic from that day on her blog as well.)

Oh hey, and I finished my Molly socks. I figure I should post a pic of them finished proper-like.

Pattern: Universal Sock Pattern, short cuff, knit in plain stockinette.
Yarn: “Gryffindor” hand-dyed sock yarn from TwoWaters, 2.5mm Addi Turbo needle

Here’s hoping I, er, everyone has a productive weekend!

to knit or not to knit

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

I didn’t have a terribly large amount of knitting going on this week. I have been trying to get some reading in and despite the fact that I continue to be distracted at every turn, it has kept me from wanting to start any new knitty (or otherwise) undertakings.

That said, I did finish some socks:

Pattern: Lou Lou Comfort Socks - Knitty’s Breast Cancer Awareness Special Issue
Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted in “Irving Park” on size US5 DPNs
Comments: My first toe-up project! This is also my first time using Lorna’s Laces and I really like it. I don’t know about the other yarn lines yet, but these socks worked up to be so soft. And pretty too.

Also, I’m just a handful of passes away from finishing my Molly socks. I can’t wait to wear ‘em around.

I was looking forward to not having anything on the needles (you know, so I don’t feel that strong magnetic pull to put off everything while I knit) but the problem with that is I won’t have anything to bring with me to knitting tonight. So I think a casual purse-project in order.

How about…. Hatmione?!
Thanks to Katie for the inspiration :)

random, scattered

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

Here it is Wednesday and I’m still without much to post. I’ve not really been able to focus on one project for too long, but I’m going to have to get my act together soon and work on some things.

My list of internet weath this week is quite random, much like my thoughts and interests are lately.
