Ribbyness
Tuesday, June 13th, 2006I feel a little bad for neglecting the blog so much; Lately my “crafty reports” have been saved for CraftBorg, because I’ve felt I’d have to be horribly redundant, repeating myself here and there.
To make up for my quietness though, I thought I’d share a little first glimpse of a new project I’ve started. You know, a special treat for those that still actually read here.
Despite recent claims that I would be clearing my needles in an attempt to focus primarily on my Peacock Feathers Shawl, on Saturday I had the sudden urge to buy yarn for and start a new sweater. It was a swift and mighty blow.
Bought pattern. Ding!
Bought yarn. Ding!
Began knitting. Ding, ding!
Since my wardrobe is rather lacking in sweaters, I decided that I would like to start with a cardigan styled sweater that I could wear with several different things. I had been eyeing Chicknits’ Ribby Cardi for awhile, so there was no debating there.
I bounced between several yarn options at the yarn store before deciding on Jo Sharp Silkroad DK Tweed in Ambrosia (main color) and Night.

In case the colors on your monitors are as wonky as mine, Ambrosia is a light yellow-green and Night is a charcoal-y color.
Here is the back part of Ribby, at the end of yarn ball number 1.

I think it was just over 8 inches there. As I type, it has reached about 9 1/2.
Sweater, eeee!
So ya know:
Monday, June 12th, 2006Once again
Sunday, June 11th, 2006there is knitting in my Self-Portrait. But then, who could blame me for wanting to share these?

Every once in awhile they mention that they want to “knit like momma,” so today I finally grabbed down some biggie needles and some scrap yarn. They don’t have a ton of patience and lost interest by the time the total number of rows was 3 of 10 stitches. But at least now they know how a stitch is made.
Do you know I couldn’t even remember that rhyme thingie that people use? What is it again? I suppose I could look it up or something.
Not that you could tell
Friday, June 9th, 2006from reading here on the ole blog, but I have actually been somewhat crafty.
Worked a tad on Fortunate Traveler. Just needs a little more backstitching and then I’ll move onto another section:

I’ve done two Mason*Dixon dishcloths in the last week. Uber fast and interesting. Meaning not boring.

And while Gilderoy2 hasn’t gone as fast as Gilderoy1, it’s still moving along nicely.

Things currently itching me:
Quiltmaking. Although more the piecing than the actual quilting.
Sewing in general. Bags especially.
Spinning. I’ve been neglecting my poor spindle.
Dollmaking. Right now I’m thinking either crocheted or knitted, though.
I wonder if I will get around to any of these, any time soon.
more puppy pictures
Wednesday, June 7th, 2006Photographing the puppies remains a challenge, but I know you are all just dying for more pics.

Things are going smashingly, so far. The kids are enamored with them, and even Justin seems to think they are pretty cool. I plan to work more with them on lead this week, as they really have no clue what it is all about.

Sunday, June 4th, 2006Me, cuddling a puppy. (puppy snack breath, phew!)

Hm, what? Oh, whose puppy is that? Well lookie there, 2 more have been added to the Waits clan! As if Jamie’s recital wasn’t enough cuteness for one weekend.
I happened to be knitting with Shelly yesterday, and we figured I might as well bring the pups home that night. “Why the heck not?” said the giddy Rosemary-shaped dog-lover in my head.
S took some pictures before I loaded them up, and hopefully they came out well because it is NOT. EASY. to photograph busy puppies. Here are a couple of the least blurry shots.
little boy Remus, longhaired miniature dachshund, born Apr. 2

little girl Ginevra, smooth miniature dachshund, born Apr. 2

(I would have cuddled her for the picture too, but she’d much rather be playing!)
Edit — another pic from S!

rockin’ robin beach baby
Saturday, June 3rd, 2006Jamie had her recital last night. Grandma, Uncle Chris, and Aunt Sarah drove up so they could be here for it.
She had stage rehearsal on Thursday night. Bunches of little kids in dance attire are always cute.

Jamie was supposed to have her hair curled for their first number and since I don’t even own a curling iron, off to the salon she went! She’d never been to a professional place before, and amazed me by sitting there and not freaking out.

Most of our time was spent either in the dressing room (cafeteria. The recital was in a Jr. High.) or in the hallway lined up. Here she is in her little Rockin’ Robin outfit.

So her class wasn’t the most coordinated or focused group of the bunch, but I do believe they scored high in the adorable category.

One day they will invent a recital venue that allows for good photos.
