Pattern: Phineas socks

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Hidey ho! I finished up the second of some new socks this afternoon.

I love em. *wiggles toes*

I again find myself knitting project-less. It’s happened a few times lately. Very strange. I’m sure I’ll find something else within seconds, though. Don’t you worry.

Likey? Have a pattern:

What is this? Why, it’s a knitted shawl.

Pattern:
Swallowtail Shawl by Evelyn A. Clark, Interweave Knits, Fall 2006
Yarn:
Handmaiden Sea Silk in “Mineral”
Comments:
Nov. 22 - Nov. 26, 2006; Blocked Nov. 27
As we were getting ready to drive to Texas last week, I quickly decided I should bring something else to knit on for the weekend besides my current sock. Julie and Shelly helped me decide on this pattern and this yarn. Shelly went a step further and declared that I would have it finished before we returned home. Turns out she was right. I am still shocked. I used no lifelines and no stitch markers, and miraculously, had no mistakes.
The one modification I made was to exclude the majority of the “nupps.” I worked the first set of nupps as directed and it took entirely too long. So I worked the next row differently (and less painfully) by increasing 5 stitches and then passing 4 of them over the last. That worked well and worked quicker, but I still felt it was too much effort for a design feature I didn’t care one way or the other about. The remaining nupp rows were worked as if there were simply just knit stitches there, although I did knit them through the back loop.
Love the yarn, very silky and very sturdy. Love the finished shawl, even though it has shown me that my preffered size of shawl would be somewhere between this one and the Peacock Feathers one.

Swallowtail was given the honor of being photographed in Shelly’s magical yarn tree as well.

*FO: Finished Object; Cause for much rejoicing.

I’ve spent a part of this afternoon sitting at the computer here with my sock and listening to podcasts. Just a moment ago I was knitting along, soothed by the gorgeous voice of Brenda Dayne, just loving being a knitter. Then I looked over and saw Milka. She had her head up but her eyes were drifting closed. When I took out my camera, she stretched and curled happily into this position:

It seems she finds Brenda to be comforting as well. Knitty kitty.

Something about Thanksgiving

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

seems to make me forget I have a blog. Some quick updates for ya.

1. Yup, Jamie is cute. She wore her hat while waiting for dance class to start on Monday.

2. Ginevra is cute too. Cute + in a basket = even cuter.

3. Someone finally relented and allowed the wearing of the bike helmet. Seems as though this move was worth it.

4. Justin took me on a date Friday. It was to a place that had signs like this:

5. Don’t worry. We’re still alive and happy (and still have all of our limbs.)

dingdingding SPS bonus!

6. We went to Galveston today. The kids had fun building a sandcastle with Grandma and Grandpa while getting more wet than should be allowed this late in November.

7. My fingers have stayed busy. Observe:

More on that later.

Can you tell I just now emptied the camera of this week’s pictures? And that we went out of town for T-day? Anywho, we’ll be home tomorrow night. Catchya later.

Some more knitting progress today.

Finished a sock. His name is Phineas.

Pattern for that coming soon.

I took a break from that sock project today to knit up a hat for Jamie really quick.

I have had a ball of Berroco Lazer FX for several months, and every time Jamie caught sight of it, she’d ask me to please knit her something from it. Well I didn’t have anything I felt particularly inspired to knit with it, nor a pattern to do so. Then I came across some Noro Blossom yesterday at Gourmet Yarn, and said “hat for Jamie!”

Another finish in the Season of the Baby Gifts. The other day I came across a panel of Pooh fabric that I had stashed, in just the right size for a baby blanket. Score! This weekend I put it together very simply with some machine quilting. I used some satin blanket binding which I remember always loving as a kid. It’s so pettable, and is perfect for lulling tactile babies off to sleep.

Meeper is very helpful lately.

Colorful!

I posted one in March as well. The weather is getting cold, so some of my exercise activities will need to move indoors. Sigh. I really like my walks though. I’m gonna try to make them work.

SPS info.

Jamie says:

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

“I’m hibes (5) years old.”

Cake for breakfast. I think this is my favorite new birthday tradition.

Next time I’ll have more forethought and make a tastier cake. Jamie doesn’t complain though; She specifically asked for Powerpuff Girls on her cake.

Meeper helped unload Jamie’s new Littlest Pet Shop playset.

He took care of the box while Justin dealt with “the most twistie ties ever.”

Having fun today.

Beats me if I can remember where the last 4.5 years or so went. Guess I’ll console myself with some cake.
