What is this? Why, it’s a knitted shawl.

Pattern:
Swallowtail Shawl by Evelyn A. Clark, Interweave Knits, Fall 2006
Yarn:
Handmaiden Sea Silk in “Mineral”
Comments:
Nov. 22 - Nov. 26, 2006; Blocked Nov. 27
As we were getting ready to drive to Texas last week, I quickly decided I should bring something else to knit on for the weekend besides my current sock. Julie and Shelly helped me decide on this pattern and this yarn. Shelly went a step further and declared that I would have it finished before we returned home. Turns out she was right. I am still shocked. I used no lifelines and no stitch markers, and miraculously, had no mistakes.
The one modification I made was to exclude the majority of the “nupps.” I worked the first set of nupps as directed and it took entirely too long. So I worked the next row differently (and less painfully) by increasing 5 stitches and then passing 4 of them over the last. That worked well and worked quicker, but I still felt it was too much effort for a design feature I didn’t care one way or the other about. The remaining nupp rows were worked as if there were simply just knit stitches there, although I did knit them through the back loop.
Love the yarn, very silky and very sturdy. Love the finished shawl, even though it has shown me that my preffered size of shawl would be somewhere between this one and the Peacock Feathers one.

Swallowtail was given the honor of being photographed in Shelly’s magical yarn tree as well.

*FO: Finished Object; Cause for much rejoicing.

It’s totally beautiful. And I’ve had my eye on the Handmaiden silks for a couple of days, so it’s nice to know someone who has experience with them.:)

It is so lovely! I love the yarn you used for it. I’ve had my eye on this pattern too, but have been afraid of the nupps. I like your solution!
