New Years Planning

Posted on December 21st, 2006 at 2:22 pm

My list of new years’ resolutions is in the works, although I’ve traditionally been one to have very simple ones. The less complicated the better is generally how I view pretty much everything.

My knitting habits, however, are going to sort of be a sub category of their own.

I thought about it for awhile, and have decided to follow along with WendyKnits’ Knit From Your Stash 2007 -along. I put the button up on my -alongs page earlier this week and have spent the last few days thinking about my personalizations.

(Click button to read Wendy’s guidelines.)

Click below for my plans and general stuff about my stash.

The modifications I’ve made for myself are listed by item number as follows:

  • 2.a. Sock yarn in my case counts. I do not want to buy any more until I’ve gone through all of it or until I feel I’ve done my time, which will either be the end of September or even longer than that.
  • 2.b. I have one gift’s worth of yarn I need to buy sometime in the next few months, but that’s really the only thing I feel I need to bend for.
  • 2.d. I do not wish to use this. At least, that’s how I feel right now.
  • 4. I shouldn’t have to worry about fiber. I have plenty to be going on with, since the only spinning I am currently doing is on my spindle and any plans for a spinning wheel are certainly on hold.

The additional guidelines I am adding for myself:

  • 1. When I am totally out of yarn that is appropriate for my Care Wool/CIC knitting, I can buy more in a project-specific way.
  • 2. I may trade yarn with someone.
  • 3. I may sell whatever yarn I have and use that money to buy a different yarn.

I went through my stash a bit ago to assess the situation.

I didn’t take any pictures because I don’t have a particularly pretty or even organized storage method at the moment. You can click HERE to see what my sock yarn stash looked like back in June; just picture it with some skeins gone or used and some more added.

As of now I have:

  • 19 pairs worth of sock or sock-appropriate yarn
  • leftovers of sock yarn
  • 2 non-sweater tops worth of Knit Picks Merino Style
  • 2 or 3 more shawls worth of Jaggerspun Zephyr on my cone of Ebony
  • 2 balls of White Jaggerspun Zephyr
  • 1 ball of Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Jelly
  • 4 random skeins of Cascade 220
  • lots of Cascade 220 leftovers
  • lots of leftovers and odd balls of other charity-knitting appropriate wools
  • 3 skeins of Lamb’s Pride Bulky in grey for a small sweater or vest for Care Wool/CIC
  • lots of leftovers and/or odd balls of other random things
  • several balls of kitchen cotton + leftovers
  • a skein of white crochet thread
  • a modest stash of spinning fiber

I feel good about my stash right now. It truly pales in comparison to some stashes I’ve seen or heard of in the years since I’ve become a knitter. Even knowing that, though, I would still like to see a major stash reduction this year so I can get more organized and become more of a project-specific shopper with a small but exciting stash for spontaneous knitting.

Oh my…..if I have to list all my stash, it will make all my other posts look very short! : )

I’m joining in this plan, too.

    Go, girl!

Sounds like a great plan. I think I will join in too and give it a try.

Thou art a stronger woman than I, to be sure. Of course, considering I only have the stash for the projects I’ve planned, I guess I’m not doing too badly. I’ve already made plans to aquire the Haiku yarn for my Moth, so I guess that counts as ‘current’ stash.:)

You need about 6 balls of Wool of the Andes in maple for CIC knitting. I can help with that! Shelly can have the other 6… or whatever halves of each it turns out to be.

I need room in my stash for my Lopi for the red yoked sweater. The bin is having a hard time closing!

I’m jumping on the bandwagon with the knitting from my stash!! Don’t think I will list everything on my blog, though…it might be embarrasing..lol!!
