Icarus

Posted on January 8th, 2007 at 10:06 pm

First finished object of 2007.

Pattern:
Icarus by Miriam Felton (I worked it as published in Interweave Knits, Summer 2006)
Yarn:
Jaggerspun Zephyr in Ebony
Comments:
The beginning of this pattern went so pleasantly and effortlessly, that I can hardly remember actually knitting most of it. I think I started sometime in December. Yep, December. When the pattern was first revealed, I immediately added it to my “must knit” list, unlike the countless shawl patterns that I have put into my list of “patterns to choose from later.” I was glad when I was freed up to start it.
In the course of knitting this shawl and especially since blocking, I have decided that I do indeed knit quite a bit looser on the metal needles (read Addi Turbos or Knit Picks) I now prefer for most things. So, I shall plan to actually do swatches on any further lace projects. Icarus was intended to be about 72″ across the top. Mine is 96.
So, don’t skip the swatching. No good can come from resisting.

    It’s beautiful!!!!!!!!! And shoot, it’s only 2 ft. larger than written….that’s such a small amt….why swatch? : )

Gorgeous shawl. :D It’s on my to-knit list, along with Peacock Feathers (which I’ve started and frogged about 5 times now), and a billion other shawls. One of these days. :)

It looks wonderful! So much better than the black blob I saw from across the room at the Knit In! :) I’m with Shelly. What’s two feet extra on a knitted shawl? Picky, picky.

That’s amazing! :) I must confess I have a thing for black lace shawls that makes me go all squiggly, it must be my inner goth.

I LOVE it. Especially the big size. Good to wrap up in and watch TV or read (or knit and listen of course).

I want one. I want a black one. I guess I’d better learn to follow a lace chart, eh?

    Someday.

Oh and you’ll be caught up to me soon on the walk! I take days off here and there. My calves have finally stretched out after Saturday. I overdid the DVD thing…

It’s *wonderful* in the black! I’m planning on knitting mine in either Ruby or Claret. I’ve never worked with the Zephyr before, but I’m waiting on two cones of Lilac to arrive for MimKnit’s Seraphim Shawl.

Fantasmagorical. You rock, that is a great looking shawl. I have been afraid of lace, but took the dive with KnitPicks Candle Flame and the Print of the Wave. But now ’sniff I wish I had started with Icarus. I like the Zephyr color as well, was it nice to knit with?

Love it, Love it!! That shawl is on my to-do list. I like the larger size. Being a ‘healty’ woman, I find many of the shawl patterns too small. Wearing a small one — I feel like I’m continuously pulling at it. Again, great job!
