Finished, finished, finished socks!

Monday, March 12th, 2007

It’s a good thing too; I am totally ready to move on. More on that hopefully soon.

socks!
Pattern:
Nope
Yarn:
Lang JaWoll, in some grey colorway.
Comments:
Socks for Justin. This is the first time I’ve used this yarn, and I really like it. This is the yarn that comes with the reinforcement thread poked into the middle. I used it for the heels and I think it will help him avoid another sole blow-out, for awhile anyway.

Just because, here’s a pic of a dog, by Jamie.

SPS in the rain

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

My mom in law and sis in law have been in town since yesterday afternoon, which is why you all haven’t seen me on the IMs. I think I like the excuse to sit around on the couch rather than in here, actually.

Anywhoo. We went to the zoo today, despite of the rain. Got quite wet.

Please excuse the less-than-flattering SPS pic. And the campy smile. Sheesh.

Those are grizzlies in the background. If you’re in OKC, you should check out their new Oklahoma Trails exhibit. Quite cool and still smelling of fresh paint and cedar.

I’ll get a little video from today up, as soon as I can figure YouTube out. Here’s a little fun video from today:

And as you may have surmised, I’ve gotten some walking in today. So now I’m in:

Reach area of the Marish with fields, meadows, hedges, gates, and drainage dikes. (59 miles, less than 400 miles to go!)

Pokemons

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

I don’t know if she is following my lead or if she’s just in the mood, but Jamie has been coloring and drawing lots lately. Normally, she’s not one to sit still and color.

Over the past week, she’s colored a couple-inch stack of pages printed from the Littlest Pet Shop website. Earlier I was drawing owls and she stole the piece of tracing paper I was working on so she could color it in. And for the last hour and 1/2, she’s been drawing what she calls pokemons.

because I seem to think randomly

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Hooray, it’s Tuesday! Monday was busy and rather sucked. So I’m glad to have a new day to work with, even if it hasn’t been all that exciting. What have I done with my day so far, you ask?

I knit a small amount on sock1 for Justin, which is moving along at a snail’s pace. But that makes sense, doesn’t it? He’s got much longer feet than I have. I’ve also swatched some yarn that I happily attained without having to fork over cash.

A clue to where my time has been going. Sock in progress. Swatch of Berroco Soft Twist. Swatch of Berroco Love It.

Just before leaving for the grocery store, I saw that my brother had his webcam on so I chatted with him some.

Boy, James would kill me if he ever bothered to read my blog enough to find pics of himself on here.

Then, because I was making a shopping list, Jamie decided she needed a list too.

Translation: Cake mix. This was all she wanted at the store. I may or may not have gotten it.

Dunno what I’ll do with the rest of my day. Probably knit some. I guess. And we’ll have another walk tonight. By the way, the kids and I have gathered a mile’s worth of walking since Wednesday night, which means I’m:

Out of the woods (55 miles)

And one last pic for people like Grandma, Daddy, and other such folks that like kids: Pics of the costumes Jamie will have for her recital in June, which will either be on the 1st or the 2nd.

Can you see me there at the bottom? I know you can’t see the kids; They’re climbing up the back of the slide and they wouldn’t be picked up in the dark anyway. As it was, I had to hit this shot heavily with curves in photoshop to make it even begin to show up. Cool though, eh?

Justin’s been out of town since Wednesday afternoon and I’ve been taking the kids on the short walk across our apartment complex every evening before bed to spend a little time at the playground. I hoped it would wear them out a bit. It has worked, marginally. But it’s a nice little routine and that is good either way. Although it was a bit cold for it last night.

The moon is nice to look at though. Today it was almost too low to see.

Apparently I’m rambly again today. Or perhaps it was the two Cafe Mochas this afternoon. Hm.

The Everything Sandwich

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Cian is very particular about his sandwiches. Here’s exactly what you need to do to make him happy at lunchtime.

1. Assemble your ingredients.

  • Wheat Bread
  • Jif Peanut Butter, smooth
  • Jelly (Actually, he’s not terribly particular about which kind of jelly. I like Raspberry, but currently we have grape. I bet Justin picked it out.)
  • Honey
  • Nutella
  • 2. Pretend that the combination isn’t the most disgusting thing you’ve ever… combined.

    3. Be SURE you ask him what shape he wants his sandwich in before you cut it. Typically he asks for “small triangles” (cut diagonally twice), and sometimes he wants squares or rectangles. Today, he asked for big triangles.

    4. Admire the artwork he makes using his crusts with peanut butter as the glue.

Today, he apparently was too hungry to remember that he doesn’t like crusts.

    mmmmm socks. me loves.

    Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Finished a pair today (finally!) and cast on the first of another (for Justin, this time). DUDE I have missed knitting socks. Even though I finished the Hedwig Monkeys recently and have had the pair shown below on the needles for weeks, it just hasn’t been ENOUGH. The way I feel tonight, I could be happy breathing sock yarn instead of oxygen. I may stuff a pillowcase with my stash and sleep with it near my head to go along with all of the knitterly dreams I have. Perhaps I’ll wake up with a finished pair if I leave some DPNs on the nightstand.

    Ahem, right. Wanna see?

    Hermione.
That is a link to the page on hp-lexicon, but you don’t really need to be told who Hermione is right?

    Hermione 3

    Hermione 2 Hermione 1

    Pattern:
Anniversary Socks by Nancy Bush, from Favorite Socks.
    Yarn:
Brown Sheep Wildfoote in Blue Blood Red
    Comments/Modifications:
Of course there were mods; I can’t ever seem to leave any pattern as is. Letsee. I made the cuffs a coupla inches shorter (for yarn and fit reasons), worked regular wedge toes (the pattern had a very odd toe that I wasn’t remotely interested in), and on the 2nd sock, reversed the lacy part so they’d mirror each other.

I absolutely love almost every pattern in this book, but this was the pattern that jumped out at me right away. There is also a lovely fair isle pattern that I must do at some point. Mmmm.

I chose the name Hermione because these strike me as a somewhat prim and proper, old-fashioned pattern (I think I’m influenced by the fact that Nancy Bush wrote the vintage sock book too) and in my mind Hermione is a little bit old-fashioned and proper. Nothing wrong of that of course. I think it’s rather attractive actually. Her character that is. Well, the socks are too. Ok, I obviously am a little rambly at the moment.

As for the yarn: Isn’t that a fantastic color? I am in love. Happily, I have another pair’s worth of the same color (different dye lot though) in my stash. This was my first time actually using the Wildfoote and I must say I’m impressed. It feels great on the foot and seems like it will wear extremely well.

    Joy!
