Lacy Waves Top detail

It occurred to me earlier that the photos from yesterday don’t exactly clearly demonstrate why the thing should be called Lacy Waves Top. The sleeves are quite ventilated and the neckline, which is actually worked seperately and sewn in to finish, is also open with a little cabling to shape the “waves.” This definitely makes it worth the almost endless stockinette parts.

I’ve spent a little time yesterday and today working on a sock I’ve yet to show off here on the blog. I have let it sit mostly un-worked on for weeks and it hasn’t yet been big enough to bother taking a picture of it. Soon though, I think.

Actually, I think I’ll go back to it now; I’m just sitting and hoping for the rain to die down a little so I can get a coupla miles in tonight.

Well, it’s done and I think from these photos you can tell the color fairly well. I would have had this up earlier as I’m trying to make it count as my sps, but Flickr is yet again not cooperating with me. I suspect my connection in general is running slow again. Grumble.

But, you’re not here to listen to me whine or complain. I have finished knitting!

Comments:
I truly dug this yarn once I accepted the splittiness that I imagine is inherent for a wool and rayon combo. It’s shiny but not over the top.
As I had mentioned before, the yo, p2tog pattern was hard on my hands but once I got past those sleeves and worked the yo,p2tog-s in the neckline panel with the cables, it was a lot of fun.
I lengthened the body by an inch or two and shortened the sleeves to about where I would no doubt push them up to if they were longer. It came out just as I had hoped.

It’s a little sad that it is Thursday and when I pop into my blog’s home page it says “…it’s Monday” at the top. I feel as if I have accomplished very little this week and I haven’t had much to post about.

However, I did spend a few minutes playing with colored pencils a bit ago and here’s a little something to look at:

I seem to have a lot of random bursts of fascination with my small stash of art supplies lately. (BTW, you should check out the owl webcam here.)

Between doing things with the kids and running errands yesterday and today, I have managed to finish the front side of Lacy Waves and am currently pushing towards the finish line on the sleeves. I have to take it slow though, as the “YO, P2Tog” pattern in them has turned out to be hard on my hands.

My SPS is late. Whoops.

Here’s my pic, taken literally like 2 minutes ago. I apologize for the crap hair and the mess in the back. It’s a Monday, you know.

ink and watercolor on my hands today

Played with my little watercolor set today. It’s quite adorable. I have almost no prior experience with watercolor painting, but I keep finding myself trying it out on various things. Today I was particularly enjoying experimenting with mixing on the little palette that slides off the bottom of the compact.

Not the greatest display of skill here, but this is my take on the current CMP ATC exchange theme, “A World in Bloom.”

So I’ve been knitting. And knitting. And knitting. Not really a surprise there, but the thing that’s been making me a little nutso is the pace at which I’m making progress.

I’m on what I guess we could call a track of warmer-weather garments that started with my Simple Knitted Bodice in a cotton blend. I have a few others in the queue after my current project, which is the Lacy Waves Top from Lace Style.

The recommended needle size is 4mm but given the amazing change that comes over my tension when I use metal needles like KnitPicks’, I’m using 3.5mm. The massive amounts of tiny stitches, while I’m sure I am knitting at my normal speed, makes it seem like its taking AGES to get anywhere. And that’s ok, but I’m all twitchy because I want to knit the other things too!

Photodump care of Flickr which doesn’t really like to let me upload all that often. As you can see, I’m really good at picking yarns that don’t like to reveal their true color to the camera. It’s fairly red in some lighting situations, but mostly is dark red/burgandy.

When I Grow Up

I hope you took my hint last week, went over to Shimelle’s, and signed up for her latest class. She surprised me recently by inviting to be a guest artist and to create a sample to go with her prompts. Her classes are always so cool and so worth it. Hope I’ll be seeing you there!

I poked around the Norman Medieval Fair quite a bit this weekend, and I do believe I found something to wear to the ball at Phoenix Rising:
