smaller than Larger than Life

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

As countless other knit/crochetbloggers have reported, Ravelry has proven to be quite a time-eater. I am not complaining. Ravelry is completely awesome.

However, I’ve also noticed that keeping track of my projects and finishes on there makes me a little less punctual about actually posting them here. For instance, last week I remembered my sister-in-law’s birthday was coming up a little too quickly. So I made her a bag. Then I finished it. In like, a day. I promptly posted it on Ravelry.

Sarah called me yesterday to thank me for it, and I remembered that I had a blog in which to show off such items.

Larger than Life Bag by Cecily Keim, Interweave Crochet - Spring 2007 (scroll down for pic)
Yarn:
Random wool leftovers. Mission Falls 1824 and some Dalegarn I think.
Comments:
I’ve been eying this pattern for awhile, but haven’t picked a yarn for it or anything. Since it was on the brain when I needed a small project, I made 2 of the squares, constructed a small purse and made a lining. Tada! I love it.

Edit. Surely you want to see the inside!

Reason #845033 I can’t wait for Ravelry to go live: I can link directly to pattern information on that site rather than dig up an obscure picture when I can’t find an official page or website.

Waits Sweaters 2007

Monday, August 6th, 2007

The first of at least 3 sweaters I plan to make for the cold weather season this year is done.

I had been thinking about my current knitting and decided that I wasn’t going to be excited about what I was doing unless I had a goal. Since sweaters for Jamie, Cian, and Justin were something I definitely wanted to do this year, last week I cast on for the first of them and was much happier for it.

Finished this weekend.
0807 Jamie Sweater
Pattern:
A yoked sweater, with some basic guidelines from the Handy Book.
Yarn:
A hand-spun, hand-dyed, but label-less yarn given to me by a local knitter friend who wasn’t going to use it. Thick and thin with a lot of texture. And purty girly colors.
Comments:
I wasn’t sure how far the yarn would go, so I made this just the right size for Jamie. I would normally make something larger so it would fit longer, but figured I could make a 2nd sweater for her this year if I had enough time.

I’ve already got a start on Cian’s sweater, but left it in knitter-pal Jeanell’s car last night after we went to see OOTP. Well, all of my WIPs were in that bag, but yeah. She’s on her way up here now to kindly bring it to me. I was starting to get twitchy.

Gah, nearly forgot again.

SPS. Gotta work a little harder on these. Would help if I didn’t remember this late in the evening when my creativity is snoring.

Poof!

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

A conversation over lunch today.

Cian: Dad, can you make me a hotdog?
Justin: Poof! You’re a hotdog.
Cian: You can’t use magic, you don’t have a magic wand!
Rose: Daddy has a magic wand. Didn’t you know? (to Justin) Show him.
Justin: (gets wand) Poof! You’re a hotdog!
Cian: That’s not a magic wand. That’s a knitting needle.

HP House Fair Isle Pouch Bags

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Here is a little something I’ve been working on for the last few weeks. I started my first Gryffindor bag in response to Norah Gaughan’s Intricate Stag Bag, which is awesome but constructed in an odd way. Once I got thinking about doing the whole thing in the round, I then began to feel like I should use my own fair isle design as well.

Then I of course felt like I should share the finished pattern with everyone else.

Edit 08.26.07: Added circular needle length.

Sockapalooza Four, mail date

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

I remember thinking, when Sockapalooza started up this year, that it was SUCH a long time to wait to finish and mail the socks. I finished mine awhile back, put them aside, and went about my business. Now suddenly, the mail date has crept upon me.

Here’s what I’m mailing off this afternooon:
Sockapalooza Package

I saw my pal likes Harry Potter at least a little bit, and packed accordingly. Sockapalooza is always exciting!
