Wacky Wednesday

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Today was Wacky Wendesday at school. We went back and forth for awhile about what would be wacky enough for Jamie to wear while still being able to function in class. We ended up with a tutu from Jamie’s tap recital last year, snow boots, glitter hair spray, and quidditch goggles. Mrs. Cloud laughed maniacally at the sight of her.

from my perch

When it’s been weeks since one has posted anything on her blog, it is really hard to know where to pick back up again. In such an instance, one is very tempted to delete everything and start from scratch. You know, come up with a gimmick or at least a blog theme instead of the catch-all thing that Quietish is. Being that the problem in the first place is lack of motivation to post however, obviously I can’t be bothered scrape around for some creativity.

So I thought I might update on what I’ve been up to for the past weeks. That’ll be fun, right? In no discernible order:

  • After years of not really watching much at all, we finally broke down and bought a (laughably small) HD TV for the bedroom. We then hooked it up to cable. This event strangely coincides with the time my friends noticed that I quit signing onto my instant messengers. Funny, that.
  • In a related note, I am writing to you now from my new favorite spot of the apartment (the perch on my bed directly in front of said TV) with an extra computer Justin scrounged up for me. The pictures following were also taken from The Perch. I only needed to lean over and grab the camera out of my purse. This will explain my lack of makeup or brushed hair.
  • Because we all know I needed another hobby, Justin and I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons every weekend with friends Matt and Mary Ellen, and lately some newer friends from nearby Charlie Bean. I am currently a Level 5 Halfling Rogue. Fear me.
  • Yes I’ve been knitting some. I have not been excited enough to post about it though. You can see finished pics here, if you are so inclined.
  • Recently I discovered that my beloved Clapotis had a few small holes in it. I frogged it and have spent a few weeks thinking about what to use the yarn for next. I could have knit another Clappy, but I don’t think I have it in me. Until this morning I was thinking I’d make a shrug. A bit ago though, I decided on the Clementine Shawlette.

I have been fickle lately though, so I might get another inch in and frog it. I’ll let you know how it goes.

  • I recently had a whole troup of Wizard Rockers roll into town for the Whomp The House tour and play a lovely show at Charlie Bean. I whined about Kelly not being there the whole time, but I had an excellent evening. I took very poor pictures. Sorry. You can see them here though.
  • The Oklahoma City area has a new Harry Potter fan group. We are bowling on Sunday. Please come, if you can. Potter people have lots of fun.
  • I changed my hair.

a quick favor please

If you know that at some point I used to keep up with your blog, could you do me a favor and post the link for me here in the comments? Or email me even, I guess. I obliterated my bookmarks awhile back and I need to rebuild from scratch.

Heck, even if I haven’t ever seen your blog before post your link. I’m so out of touch.

Thankya!! <3 <3 <3

Well then.

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

I spend quite a bit of time thinking about and/or complaining about my lack of time and my inability to do everything I want to do. I’m often frustrated that I can’t keep up with all of my interests. Last night however, I was surprised to sit up and realize that the “regular” day I had been having was actually very productive.

I started the day by trying a new hairstyle with Jamie. Tall pigtails right in front to keep her out-of-control bangs out of her face. Once she was at school, Cian and I got some coffeeshop time as well as knitting time. I had finished some fingerless gloves the day before and celebrated by starting a new shawl project.

The afternoon was relaxed but also managed to not be lazy. When I’m home with the kids I do things here and there, but yesterday I also managed to grab up the guitar and practice a bit several times. I had a cat in my lap or a dog in my lap at various points. Oh yes, fuzzy puppy/kitten time is indeed essential. I also had kids in my lap or sitting on my legs here and there, too, naturally.

I cooked dinner. For the third time this week. I will wait while you regain consciousness.

After dinner we had family TV time (which is actually pretty unusual for us). Pokémon. I cross stitched. CROSS STITCHED, people! I did maybe 2 square inches of stitching in all of 2007. This is huge!

With the kids in bed, I fit in my nightly walk accompanied by an audiobook. I came back and stitched some more.

What I did to deserve a day with more hours, I don’t know. When I spend some time drawing and writing in the next few days I will have everything covered this week. Who knows, I may even feel like I have something to post about.

I have a really full life without even trying too hard. That is exciting to me, and I hope that I can make a habit of not worrying too much about things and letting them happen.

Happy 2008, everyone!

Happy Holidays

from me and Luna. (Well, plus 2 hobbits who reallyshouldbesleeping in the other room, Justin who is hopefully facilitating that, 2 lazy cats not in the frame, and 2 little hotdogs. Even if we crowded around the webcam, it would be a fantastic blur.)

So my blogginess has been pretty much nonexistent this month and the quality of content for the entire year or more has frankly been questionable. I’m not sure what the future holds for Quietish: The Blog. It is possible I’ll come back in 2008 with all of my wits and a nice helping of enthusiasm, but then I may come back to post a bloggy farewell. I go back and forth.

We’re out of town for the holidays starting tomorrow before the sun is up. I hope the next week brings me some clarity. And in the meantime, I hope you all have warm and blessed holidays.

Just got home. Did I miss anything big/important/exciting/amazing (any of the above)? Lemme know. Please and thank you.

in the land of real-tree camo

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

I have managed to see not one but two of my closest (although not in distance) friends this weekend and have managed to take a whopping ZERO photos. If anyone happens to find my brain, please let me know. Be sure to check under your shoes. Thanks.

anyone wanting a vacation home?

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

My brother is selling my mom’s house.

house in Wisconsin

It’s weird seeing it up as a real estate listing. I have been hoping he’d sell for awhile; Having it has been a bigger hassle than I think he realized it would be. He’s just too far away to keep up the maintenance and chase down deadbeat renters.

It’s sad, though. I didn’t like living there when I was 15 and even now I know that there aren’t many jobs for the like of us, even if we did want to live out in the woods away from any major cities. But I do love it up there. I miss the smell of the fresh air and pine trees, I weirdly miss the sound of the snow-mobilers trying to kill themselves on the trail back behind the property, I miss my dad of course, and totally miss my mom.

If it weren’t so stinkin’ far, I’d so be up for a week’s vacation.

you know what else hats are?

Proof that I am still alive. Finished 2 this weekend.

maroon bumpy hat

crocheted sock yarn baby hat
Crocheted baby hat with an oddball of hand-dyed sock yarn that I should have an announcement about at some point… maybe in the new year? An announcement about yarn, not babies, btw.

Anyway, yeah. I’m alive. I spent a lot of time on the couch this weekend and didn’t even make it out to Hastings for knitting, but that is partially because I hurt my ankle on Wednesday night and it’s still not great to walk on.

In other news, Justin was able to come home for a few days before he needs to head back out for something on Wednesday. I’m hoping they’ll just reschedule the whole thing so I can continue sitting around when it’s convenient for me.

Cian and I found something to occupy us while we were waiting to pick up Jamie today. Luna helped.

tree helpers Luna under treee

I think she’s still under there, actually.

I discovered that neither of my tree-designated sets of lights work and while I was doing that I was also disturbed by a tag I found on there with a warning about how handling them exposes the handler to lead, so I chucked them back in the box. Do all strings of lights’ cords contain lead, I wonder? If they don’t, I’ll go buy some new ones. If they do, then I think we’ll be doing construction-paper garland this year.

Not that decorating for Christmas is even something I usually enjoy. I think the tree and the kids’ enthusiasm is mostly a convenient distraction at the moment.

I’m still in a massive funk, mostly for reasons unknown although I admit there are a few irrational ones and some I don’t even really have the energy to talk about just now. I’m still gladly accepting chocolate, hugs, gifts, phone calls, and people who aren’t shy about inviting themselves over to sit on my couch. Justin’s out of town until I think the 6th? So yeah. Just me, the kids, and The Crazy.
